To the Bones

La presente collezione racchiude la ricerca artistico-antropologica da me effettuata, su l'inutilità degli utensili che potrebbero essere stati realizzati dai precursori della nostra civiltà. I manufatti testimoniano, in maniera tangibile, una supposizione su come gli oggetti del passato abbiano assunto una vera e propria funzione pragmatica per la sopravvivenza dell’uomo.

Questi strumenti ed armi, rappresentano il fallimento e l'inutilità dei modelli mai scoperti, dei prototipi falliti. Creati per procacciarsi il cibo, oppure per coltivare terreni, gli utensili inutili in questione, sono frutto di sperimentazioni artistiche che ripropongono soluzioni alternative a strumenti come la lancia preistorica; essa ebbe una funzione cruciale per la sopravvivenza e per procacciare il cibo. Sicuramente vi furono delle creazioni, poi rivelatesi fallimentari, che spinsero l'uomo preistorico ad ideare degli attrezzi adeguati per la riuscita dello strumento finale.

Tutto il progetto nasce e si sviluppa secondo una corsia inversa: concepire degli in-utensili, simili ad oggetti tribali; inserendo una cornice asettica e fredda, per relegarli volutamente all'idea di reperti; ed inserirle nel contesto geometrico delle forme, rievocando con la lampadina come sinonimo di intelletto. I materiali naturali ed antichi, con valenze simboliche e spirituali, creano un connubio ideale con il freddo metallo. Il fondo vivido e saturo di cromie, collega in maniera indissolubile il manufatto alla cornice.

Il calore delle ossa si contrappone così, a quell'ambiente etereo, avvolto nella foschia luminosa della sorgente elettrica. Si creano così nuove immagini visive e tattili sulla memoria della nostra cultura, aprendo un dialogo fra ciò che fu e ciò che è.

Le suddette “armi” prendono il titolo dall'assonanza inglese fra “to the warms” e “to the bones”, una carica alle armi diremmo in italiano, o meglio, alle ossa.

This collection contains the artistic-anthropological research I have carried out on the uselessness of the tools that could have been made by the precursors of our civilization. The artefacts bear witness, in a tangible way, to a supposition on how the objects of the past have taken on a real pragmatic function for the survival of man.

These tools and weapons represent the failure and uselessness of the never discovered models, of the failed prototypes. Created to procure food or to cultivate land, the useless tools in question are the result of artistic experiments that propose alternative solutions to tools such as the prehistoric spear; it had a crucial function for survival and for obtaining food. Surely there were creations, which later proved to be unsuccessful, which pushed prehistoric man to devise suitable tools for the success of the final instrument.

The whole project was born and developed along a reverse path: conceiving in-tools, similar to tribal objects; by inserting an aseptic and cold frame, to deliberately relegate them to the idea of finds; and insert them into the geometric context of the shapes, recalling the light bulb as a synonym of intellect. The natural and ancient materials, with symbolic and spiritual values, create an ideal combination with the cold metal. The vivid background, saturated with colours, inextricably connects the artefact to the frame.

The heat of the bones thus contrasts with that ethereal environment, wrapped in the luminous haze of the electrical source. In this way, new visual and tactile images are created on the memory of our culture, opening a dialogue between what was and what is.

The aforementioned "weapons" take their title from the English assonance between "to the warms" and "to the bones", a charge to the arms we would say in Italian, or rather, to the bones.
